About Mary

Mary S. Hedges, M.D., serves as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mayo Clinic Florida, Associate Chair for Education in the Department of Medicine, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, and Consultant in the Division of Community Internal Medicine. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in Sociology, Music, and Pre-Medical Sciences from Baylor University in 2000 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 2004. Dr. Hedges completed her internal medicine residency training at Mayo Clinic in Florida, serving as Chief Medical Resident, and received board certification in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2007. She is also a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner.

Throughout her career at Mayo Clinic Florida, Dr. Hedges has held numerous leadership and educational roles, including Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency from 2011 to 2020. She has received multiple awards for teaching and education, such as the Top Teacher Award from the Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Outstanding Educator Award from the Department of Medicine, the Mayo Clinic Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Performance as a Teacher of Clinical Medicine, and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Additional honors include the Diversity Champion Award and repeated Provider Recognition awards for patient experience. Dr. Hedges contributes extensively to institutional committees focused on medical education, trainee well-being, diversity and inclusion, and clinical learning environments, as well as professional organizations including the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine and the North American Menopause Society. Her work emphasizes residency training, educational innovation, and faculty development within academic internal medicine.
