Professor Matthew Clarke is a Deakin Distinguished Professor and currently serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation at Deakin University. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Victoria University of Technology, a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University, and a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education from Deakin University. His academic career at Deakin University has included appointments as Pro Vice-Chancellor Researcher Development, Head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Alfred Deakin Professor. Clarke’s research focuses on international development, with specializations in economic development, international aid flows, religion and development, and aid effectiveness in the Pacific and South-East Asia. Over more than three decades, he has contributed extensively to the field through numerous publications, including books and edited volumes on human well-being, international development issues and challenges, and faith-based organizations in development. He has held leadership roles in academic and humanitarian contexts, including as an executive member of the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership, and continues to influence research strategy and development studies at Deakin University.
