Dr Matthew McCurry is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Earth and Sustainability Science Research Centre within the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales. He also serves as Senior Research Scientist and Curator of Palaeontology at the Australian Museum. His academic background includes a BSc (Hons) from the University of Newcastle and a PhD in Functional Morphology from Monash University. He began his positions at the Australian Museum Research Institute and UNSW in 2017, following fellowships at Monash University and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
Dr McCurry is a vertebrate palaeontologist and functional morphologist whose research focuses on understanding the behaviour, ecology and evolution of extinct species through the fossil record. He employs fieldwork, descriptive palaeontology, comparative anatomy, 3D scanning and biomechanical simulations in his work. He holds memberships in the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology and the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology.
