Professor Maurice Curtis is a Professor in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, affiliated with the Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging. He holds the position of Professor of Neuroscience and serves as Director of Faculty Research at the Medical Imaging Research Centre. Curtis directs a research laboratory focused on the early brain changes associated with neurodegenerative diseases, with particular emphasis on Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. He is Co-Director of the Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank at the University of Auckland’s Centre for Brain Research.
Curtis began his academic career in 1999 with a master’s degree examining new brain cells in brains affected by neurodegenerative conditions. He maintains an active research program with numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics including insulin receptor patterns in the human cortex and glial changes in Alzheimer’s disease. His work contributes to understanding disease pathogenesis and potential modifiable factors in neurodegenerative conditions. Curtis is available for media enquiries through the university.
