About Meahabo

Professor Meahabo Dinah Magano is a Full Professor in Psychology of Education at the University of South Africa. She holds a Doctor of Education degree and specialises in the psychology of education. Prior to joining academia, she accumulated 22 years of experience as a high school educator, serving as head of department, deputy principal, and acting principal, and later worked as National Manager for Teacher Training at Heinemann Publishers. She joined the University of Johannesburg in 2007, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012, and became Full Professor at the University of South Africa in 2015. In her current role, she serves as Executive Director of the Department of Tuition Support and Facilitation of Learning.

Professor Magano has supervised more than 30 postgraduate students and has authored books, book chapters, and articles focused on the wellness of learners in various contexts, including projects on the wellness of juveniles and teachers in correctional schools and the wellness of teachers and learners with disabilities. She has held leadership positions such as Chairperson of the Education Association of South Africa and the Unisa Women’s Forum. Her contributions have been recognised with awards including Woman of the Year in 2014, Unisa Nation Builder in 2023, and Transformative Leader in 2024. She has co-edited books and remains actively involved in teacher education and community engagement initiatives at the university.
