Mei Lin Neo is a Senior Research Fellow at the Tropical Marine Science Institute of the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she is also affiliated with the St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory. She earned a BSc in Life Sciences from NUS in 2009 and a PhD in Marine Ecology from NUS in 2013. Her research centers on marine conservation, invertebrate ecology, mariculture, and the biology and conservation of giant clams, with projects including a major restocking programme for giant clams in Singapore conducted between 2011 and 2018 and ongoing work on mariculture techniques for endangered marine species such as cowrie snails and sea urchins.
Neo has received several honors, including the Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation in 2021, the Singapore Youth Award in 2019, the TED Fellowship in 2017, the NUS Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2017, the L’Oréal For Women in Science National Fellowship in 2015, and the World Future Foundation PhD Prize in 2014. She is actively involved in science communication and outreach to promote marine conservation awareness.
