Micah Rapata is an Honorary Research Fellow in Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland. He completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Auckland in 2013 and a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours in 2017. Rapata has been involved in clinical and biomedical research within the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland since 2016. His research focuses on Māori ocular health and related disparities.
Key publications include the 2023 article “Te hauora karu o te iwi Māori: A comprehensive review of Māori ocular health,” which summarizes data on eye health disparities between Māori and non-Māori populations. He has contributed to studies on vision screening for Pacific peoples and barriers to eye donation in Aotearoa New Zealand. Rapata currently works as an Ophthalmology Registrar at Te Whatu Ora.
