Dr. Michael Green is the President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean, and CEO of NOSM University, a role he assumed on November 1, 2024. He previously served as Professor Emeritus in Family Medicine at Queen’s University, where he joined the faculty in 2003. Dr. Green earned a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with a focus on health policy and management. He practiced family medicine for more than eight years in Moose Factory, Ontario, serving as Chief of Staff, and also worked in Kashechewan. At Queen’s University, he held the Brian Hennen Chair and led the Department of Family Medicine from 2017 to 2023. He was Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences and the inaugural Clinical Teachers Association of Queen’s University Chair in Applied Health Economics and Health Policy. Dr. Green is recognized as an expert in family medicine, rural and Indigenous health, and health policy. His career has emphasized community-based care, health equity, and addressing the needs of rural, remote, Indigenous, and Francophone communities in Northern Ontario. Through his leadership at NOSM University, he continues to advance healthcare education, research, and social accountability in the region.
Throughout his tenure at Queen’s Health Sciences, Dr. Green contributed to the development of healthcare education and policy research. His experience as a family physician in Northern Ontario communities has informed his commitment to improving health outcomes and supporting learners in rural and underserved areas. As President of NOSM University, he focuses on collaboration, innovation, and partnerships to strengthen the institution’s role in serving diverse populations across Northern Ontario.
