About Michael

Michael Lattke is a Research Associate in the Department of Brain Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. His overarching research interest is understanding how genomic programmes interact with external signals to control cellular functions in brain development and disease. He uses single-cell transcriptomics and related advanced technologies to investigate these processes.

Lattke holds a Dr. rer. nat. degree and has been affiliated with Imperial College London since 2021. He previously contributed to research in the laboratory of Vincenzo De Paola, focusing on the impact of Down syndrome on human brain development. In October 2025, he joined the laboratory of Paul Matthews at the UK Dementia Research Institute at Imperial to study the role of glial cells in Alzheimer’s disease. As first author, he led a 2026 study that generated a single-cell atlas of the developing Down syndrome brain, identifying key genetic regulators and showing that their activity can be modulated in human brain cells. This work provides a foundation for further research into complex neurological conditions.
