About Michelle

Michelle Downton is an instructional faculty member and adjunct professor in the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, where she has taught since 2019. She instructs courses in nursing assessments, pediatrics, and leadership. Downton holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), earned in 2004 through the collaborative program between SIAST (now Saskatchewan Polytechnic) and the University of Saskatchewan. In 2023, she completed a Master of Laws (LLM) in healthcare law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.

Prior to her academic role, Downton accumulated extensive clinical and leadership experience as a Registered Nurse. She worked in front-line care, including in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Regina General Hospital, served as a Transport RN with Saskatchewan Air Ambulance, and acted as NICU educator. She later managed the Labour and Birth department at Regina General Hospital for nearly six years, overseeing a multi-million-dollar budget and hundreds of staff. Downton has been President of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Faculty Association (SPFA) and previously served on its bargaining committee since 2023. Her career spans over two decades in healthcare, education, and advocacy.
