Miguel Alberto Gomez serves as Senior Research Fellow at the Centre on Asia and Globalisation in the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. He previously held the position of Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Dr. Gomez earned a PhD in Political Science from the Universität Hildesheim in Germany, a master’s degree in International Security from the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals in Spain, and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. Prior to his academic career, he spent eight years working as an information security professional.
His research examines the intersection of emerging technologies, national security, and decision-making processes, with a focus on how policymakers employ cyberspace technologies to advance national interests and the resulting effects on public opinion. Dr. Gomez has published in outlets including International Studies Quarterly, European Journal of International Security, International Interactions, Journal of Global Security Studies, and Journal of Cyber Policy. Notable works include the articles “Trust at Risk: The Effect of Proximity to Cyberattacks,” “Breaking the Myth of Cyber Doom,” and “Victory in Cyberspace,” as well as contributions on cyber norms in ASEAN and U.S. public opinion regarding Indo-Pacific relationships. He has participated in events and webinars on topics such as AI and cybersecurity in the Indo-Pacific and regional resilience amid great power rivalry. His scholarship is cited extensively, with over 400 citations recorded across academic platforms.
