About Mike

Mike Karapita served as Coordinator of the Journalism Program at Humber College in Toronto. He joined the institution in 2004 and held the coordinator role for approximately seven years. Karapita is a graduate of Victoria College at the University of Toronto, where he studied English and Political Science, and he earned a Master of Journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa.

With more than 25 years of experience as a working journalist, Karapita began his career at the Canadian Press before moving to broadcast journalism. He wrote national news for CTV National News and held various roles at the CBC, including writer for The National, producer, senior producer for local, national, and international news, and Executive Producer at CBC Radio. He contributed to the creation of programs such as CBC News: Today on television and Sounds Like Canada on CBC Radio. Karapita received a Gemini award nomination for his work in private television in Toronto. He has continued part-time roles as a senior TV editor for CBC News Network and as a senior writer and corporate trainer for CBCNews.ca. In addition to his teaching and coordination duties, Karapita has mentored new faculty hires at Humber, participated in a cross-college working group on student literacy, and served as a mentor for students at the University of Toronto and Carleton University. In 2012, he was an invited guest of the Government of Bhutan, advising on social media applications and strategies. He has been recognized as one of the top 15 notable arts professors in Toronto by The Art Project.
