About Miltom

Miltom Shigihara is an electrical engineer and researcher at the Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE) of the Universidade de São Paulo. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Energy and Automation from the Polytechnic School of the Universidade de São Paulo, a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the same institution awarded in 1998, and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade de São Paulo awarded in 2015. His doctoral thesis addressed the modeling of the behavior of medium-voltage insulators against lightning overvoltages.

Shigihara serves as an engineer researcher in the Technical Service of High Voltage and Atmospheric Discharges at IEE-USP, where his work centers on high-voltage engineering, atmospheric discharges, electrical installations, and lightning protection. He has contributed to research on monitoring equipment and lines, diagnostic techniques for equipment, protection against atmospheric discharges in high, medium, and low voltage, development of materials, and measurement and calibration techniques in high voltage. Shigihara participates in workshops and events on lightning protection and electrical safety, including presentations and organizational roles related to these topics.
