About Minmin

Dr Minmin Fu is a Lecturer in Climate Science at the University of Southampton. She earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University in 2022. Prior to joining the University of Southampton, she served as a Flint Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University. Her research specializations include climate dynamics, paleoclimate, and climate modeling, with particular focus on the El Niño Southern Oscillation, the tropical Pacific Ocean response to climate change, and paleoclimate conditions during periods such as the warm Pliocene and the Last Glacial Maximum. Fu has also investigated deep-time paleoclimate topics, including climate oscillations during Cryogenian glaciation and the impacts of paleogeography on Snowball Earth initiation.

Fu has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as Earth and Planetary Science Letters, Geophysical Research Letters, Journal of Climate, Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Climate Dynamics, and Science Advances. Notable contributions include work on interannual to multidecadal climate oscillations during Cryogenian glaciation (2026), the role of feedbacks in tropical Pacific sea surface temperature responses to global warming (2023), and impacts of an active Pacific Meridional Overturning Circulation on Pliocene climate (2024). She previously received a Harvard University Certificate of Distinction in Teaching in 2019. Fu contributes to the academic field through modeling studies that advance understanding of past and future climate variability and change.
