About Mira

Dr. Mira Mousa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Khalifa University’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences. She also serves as Deputy Program Manager of the Biomedical Science Discovery (BISDI) Program in affiliation with the Center for Biotechnology and is involved in the Emirati Reference Genome Project. Her research integrates epidemiology, population genetics, public health, multi-omics, and bioinformatics to examine genotypic-phenotypic interactions in disease pathogenesis, with the goal of identifying biomarkers for early diagnosis and drug development. Primary research areas include women’s reproductive health, metabolic disorders, cancer, and infectious diseases. Dr. Mousa leads the MAR’A Project (Middle Eastern Women Research Association), an epidemiological study on gynecological health in the region conducted in collaboration with UAE stakeholders and policymakers.

Dr. Mousa earned a PhD in the Genetic Epidemiology of Women’s Reproductive Health from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine from University College London, and a BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Central Florida. She teaches courses including Human Behavior and Well-Being (HUMA156) and BMED413. Her research projects encompass understanding endothelial cell dysfunction for alternative immunotherapy in diabetes-related cardiovascular complications, characterization of the UAE genome for personalized medicine, predictive, preventative, personalized, and participatory (P4) medical practices on diabetes, genetic epidemiology of women’s reproductive health conditions, and the Cancer Genome Atlas: the Arab Genome.
