About Mitsuru

Mitsuru Akaki served as Assistant Professor at the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, from April 2022 to October 2025. He holds a Ph.D. in Science from Sophia University. His research focuses on magnetism, superconductivity, and strongly correlated systems, with particular emphasis on the properties of materials under extreme conditions such as high magnetic fields and ultralow temperatures. Prior to his appointment at Tohoku University, Akaki held positions including roles at Kobe University’s Molecular Photoscience Research Center, the University of Osaka, the University of Tokyo’s Institute for Solid State Physics, and Sophia University, along with a JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists.

Akaki received the Young Scientist Award from the Physical Society of Japan in 2021 and an Encouragement Award from the Society of Electron Spin Science and Technology in 2022. His contributions include publications in journals such as Physical Review Letters, Science Advances, and Physical Review B, addressing topics including magnetoelectric effects, spin excitations, and nonreciprocal transport phenomena. He has participated in committee roles, including as an operations committee member for Division 3 of the Physical Society of Japan.
