About Naoki

Naoki Shida is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Yokohama National University, affiliated with the Division of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Yokohama National University in 2011 and completed his Master’s and Doctoral degrees at Tokyo Institute of Technology, receiving his Ph.D. in Engineering in 2016. His doctoral research focused on gradient modification of material surfaces using bipolar electrochemistry under the supervision of Professor Shinsuke Inagi, supported by a JSPS DC1 fellowship.

Shida’s academic career includes postdoctoral positions as a JSPS-PD fellow at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and the California Institute of Technology, followed by a specially appointed assistant professor role at Tokyo Institute of Technology. He joined Yokohama National University as an Assistant Professor in 2020 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2024. He also serves concurrently as a JST PRESTO researcher. His research centers on electrosynthesis of small molecules and polymers as well as electrocatalysis. Shida has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, including recent works published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Nature Communications. He has received multiple awards, such as the Japan Chemical Society Award for Young Chemists, the Electrochemical Society of Japan Award, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Young Scientist Award. Shida contributes to editorial and committee roles in professional societies and has delivered presentations at international conferences on organic redox chemistry and electrochemical methods.
