Professor Nasib Singh Gill is the senior most Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Applications at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, where he has served since the department’s inception in February 1990. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, completed post-doctoral research at Brunel University in the United Kingdom from 2001 to 2002, and earned an MBA. His administrative roles at the university have included multiple terms as Head of the Department, Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education, Director of the Digital Learning Centre, Nodal Officer for the Academic Bank of Credits, Director of the University Computer Centre, Director of the Directorate of Distance Education, Director of MDU Alumni, Director of Public Relations, and University Nodal Officer for the All India Survey on Higher Education.
Professor Gill’s research interests include IoT, machine and deep learning, information and network security, data mining and data warehousing, natural language processing, and measurement of component-based systems. He has authored five books on topics such as software engineering, digital design and computer organisation, computing fundamentals, and essentials of computer and network technology. He has published more than 398 research papers, including over 225 in national and international journals, and has been granted or published multiple patents. He has supervised 13 Ph.D. scholars to completion and guided numerous master’s projects and theses. His honors include the Commonwealth Fellowship Award for 2001–2002, Best Paper Awards from the Computer Society of India in 1994 and at the International Conference on Information System and Data Mining in 2023, and participation in the Leadership for Academicians Programme at IIT Kharagpur and the University of Cambridge in 2019. He has served as a resource person or key speaker at over 140 faculty development programmes, refresher courses, and conferences, contributed to 13 MOOCs on the SWAYAM platform, and acted as a subject expert or assessor for bodies including UPSC, UGC, AICTE, NAAC, and NBA.
