Nchangwi Syntia Munung is a bioethics researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town. She holds an MSc in Medicine (Bioethics) from the University of Cape Town and has served as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Division of Human Genetics. Her research focuses on ethical and social issues in genomics and global health research, including the application of theories of global health justice and African communitarian ethics such as Ubuntu to inform equitable governance of genomics research and biobanking in Africa. She has contributed to scholarship on justice, fairness, and equity in genetics and genomics, as well as topics including ethics of infectious disease control, public engagement in genomics and data science in health, and ethical issues related to emerging biotechnologies.
Munung has authored or co-authored publications addressing pathways to equitable access and delivery of genomics medicine in Africa and guiding principles for equitable genomics governance. She maintains an active role in research initiatives focused on health equity and genomics capacity in African contexts.
