Rate My Professor Nelesh Dhanpat

Professor Nelesh Dhanpat is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management at the University of Johannesburg in the College of Business and Economics, where he specialises in Human Resource Management. He holds a PhD in HRM and is rated Y2 by the National Research Foundation. He served as Deputy Head of Department from 2020 to 2025, leading a team of 16 academics. Prof Dhanpat serves as Editor-in-Chief of the South African Journal of Industrial Psychology and sits on the editorial boards of several leading local and international journals, including PLOS One, SAGE Open, the South African Journal of Business Management, the South African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences, the African Journal of Employee Relations, and the Journal of Psychology in Africa. He also serves as Assistant Editor of the South African Journal of Human Resource Management, Section Editor and Guest Associate Editor of Frontiers in Psychology, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Health, and Consulting Editor of the Journal of Psychology in Africa. He is President of the South African Human Resource Universities Forum from 2025 to 2027 and serves on the Special Projects Committee of the International Business Conference. He holds professional memberships with the South African Board of People Practitioners, the African Academy of Management, and the European Academy of Management. His research interests include positive organisational behaviour, employee retention, psychological contracts, and employee well-being. He has supervised over 30 postgraduate students to completion and has published widely in accredited journals, presenting at conferences across Africa, Europe, and South America. In addition to his academic work, Prof Dhanpat facilitates leadership and HR development programmes for corporates and state-owned enterprises.
