About Nicholas WS

Dr Nicholas WS Chew is an Associate Consultant in the Department of Cardiology at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS) and Junior Academic Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He graduated with an MBChB from the University of Auckland in 2016, obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2019, completed his Internal Medicine residency in 2020 and Cardiology specialty training at NUHCS in 2023. He holds an MMed (Internal Medicine) and, in 2024, completed a Master of Clinical Investigation at NUS. Dr Chew was selected for the Singapore Chief Residency Programme during his training and was awarded the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship in 2022.

His clinical and research interests centre on the early detection and management of coronary heart disease and heart attack, with a focus on cardiometabolic factors and hidden risk factors in acute coronary syndromes. He is principal investigator on multiple studies supported by grants including the MOE Tier 1 grant and NUHS Clinician-Scientist Programme Award. Dr Chew has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Cell Metabolism, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Annals of Internal Medicine and The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has received Young Investigator Awards at regional and international conferences, serves on editorial boards of international journals and was named to the World’s Top 2% Scientists List in 2023. He is also an invited speaker at meetings including those of the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver.
