About Nicola

Professor Nicola Anstice is a Professor in Optometry in the Discipline of Optometry at Flinders University within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Her research focuses on optometry, with particular emphasis on children’s vision and myopia. She holds a PhD in Optometry from the University of Auckland, completed between 2005 and 2009. Prior to her appointment at Flinders University, she held positions including Research Fellow at the Department of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Melbourne and the Centre for Eye Research Australia, and served as Associate Professor and Head of Discipline.

Professor Anstice has contributed to key publications in the field, including the 2011 paper “Effect of dual-focus soft contact lens wear on axial myopia progression in children” published in Ophthalmology, which has received substantial citations. Other notable works address visual acuity measurement in children, preschool vision screening, and neonatal glycemia outcomes. She led a national survey on the working conditions of employee optometrists in Australia, resulting in a position statement by Optometry Australia. In recognition of her contributions to optometry and vision science, she received the Women in Innovation SA Award in the Science category.
