Nik Taylor is a Professor in Sociology, Anthropology and Human Services at the University of Canterbury. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Manchester Metropolitan University. Taylor is a critical and public sociologist whose research focuses on mechanisms of power and marginalisation expressed through human relations with other animals. She serves as co-director of the New Zealand Centre for Human-Animal Studies and teaches in the Human Services and Social Work program, with topics including human-animal violence.
Taylor has published extensively, with over seventy articles, books and book chapters. Her work contributes to critical animal studies and feminist-animal studies. Prior to her role at the University of Canterbury, she held positions including Associate Professor at Flinders University. She is recognised internationally for her contributions to the sociological study of human-animal relations.
