Professor Niki Harré is a full professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland, where she serves as Head of the School of Psychology. Her teaching and research are in the areas of community psychology and the psychology of sustainability. She teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research addresses issues of sustainability, values and care for the common good, with a focus on how people can live well together. Harré completed a PhD at the University of Auckland titled 'The young driver: a highway warrior?'. She has been a full professor at the University since at least 2019. Harré has authored books including Psychology for a Better World: Working with People to Save the Planet and The Infinite Game: How to Live Well Together. She has also explored themes related to secular approaches to meaning and community in works such as The Calling. Harré contributes to university initiatives, including serving as sustainability lead for a curriculum review. Her work emphasises shared human values and the potential for positive change in communities and society.
Harré supervises postgraduate students at honours, masters and PhD levels, with many projects involving direct community engagement. As Head of the School of Psychology in the Faculty of Science, she oversees teaching, research and supervision across the discipline.
