About Nirat

Nirat Ray is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. She earned her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she conducted research in condensed matter experiment. Her work centers on functional nanomaterials, electronic charge transport, quantum materials and devices, and electronic metamaterials. Ray leads the Electronic Metamaterials Laboratory at IIT Delhi, investigating nanoscale engineering of materials to control electron behavior, including studies on perovskite nanoparticle assemblies, metallic nanomeshes, nanowire networks for neuromorphic applications, and related topics in charge transport and device performance.

Ray has received recognition including the Women of Impact at IIT Delhi award and was featured by the Royal Society of Chemistry in its 2026 collection celebrating women in nanoscience. She has collaborated on projects such as a joint research initiative with Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India focused on quantum sensors and battery systems. Her Google Scholar profile lists numerous publications in materials science with citations exceeding 900.
