Orla Feely is President of University College Dublin. She holds a BEng degree from University College Dublin and MS and PhD degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, where her PhD thesis won the DJ Sakrison Memorial Prize for outstanding and innovative research. While at UC Berkeley she also received the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award. Feely has served as a lecturer at UCD since 1992 and is a professor of electronic engineering whose research focuses on nonlinear circuits and systems. She was appointed Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Impact at UCD in 2014 and held that position until 2023. On 1 May 2023 she became President of University College Dublin, the first woman to hold the role. Feely is the first Irish woman elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. She is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, a Fellow of Engineers Ireland (of which she served as president from 2021 to 2022) and a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering. She has also held the position of Vice-President for Resources and treasurer of the Conference of European Schools of Advanced Engineering Education and Research (CESAER) and served as a director of the Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
