Ovidiu Tatar is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and a Research Associate at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research, affiliated with the Douglas Research Centre. He holds an MD, MSc, and PhD. His research focuses on psychosocial factors influencing preventive health behaviors, including human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination decision-making, vaccine hesitancy, cervical cancer screening preferences, and related topics in health psychology and addiction psychiatry. Tatar has contributed to the development and validation of several psychometric scales, such as the vaccine hesitancy scale and measures of HPV knowledge and attitudes.
Key publications include the 2018 paper “The vaccine hesitancy scale: Psychometric properties and validation” in Vaccine, which has received over 500 citations, as well as studies on correlates of HPV vaccine acceptability among parents and young adults, emotional responses to HPV testing, and interventions for cannabis use in individuals with psychosis. He has received McGill University Grad Excellence Awards in Family Medicine (2014) and Experimental Medicine (2013), along with earlier international scholarships from the Austrian Academic Exchange Service and German Academic Exchange Service. Tatar has served as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including the North American Primary Care Research Group.
