Professor P Barron is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a BCom and FFCH (SA). His work focuses on public health, with contributions to health systems research, monitoring and evaluation, maternal and child health, and related areas in South Africa. He has served in roles including at the National Department of Health in HIV/AIDS, TB and MCWH. Professor Barron has been involved as an editor or contributor to multiple editions of the South African Health Review, including 2005, 2008 and 2017. He was a member of the Technical Evaluation Reference Group of The Global Fund from 2018 to 2022. He has conducted research on topics such as MomConnect, a mobile health messaging service for mothers, and trends in teenage births and pregnancies.
