Professor Pankaj Chandra is the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Management at Ahmedabad University. He holds a BTech from Banaras Hindu University and a PhD from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Previously, he served as Director of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore from 2007 to 2013 and as Professor of Operations and Technology Management at both IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. He has held tenured positions at McGill University and visiting positions at institutions including the University of Geneva, The Wharton School, Cornell University, and Renmin University in Beijing. He has also worked with The World Bank and was the first Associate Dean (Academic) at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
Professor Chandra’s research and teaching interests include manufacturing management, supply chain coordination, building technological capabilities, higher education policy, and hi-tech entrepreneurship. He has published extensively in international refereed journals and served on editorial boards of several journals. He edited the book Technology, Practices, and Competitiveness: The Primary Textile Industry in Canada, China and India (Himalaya Publishers, 1998) and authored Building Universities that Matter: Where are Indian Institutions going Wrong?, which examines governance, change, and institution building in Indian public universities. He has conducted a national survey on the competitiveness of Indian manufacturing for over twenty years. Professor Chandra has served on numerous Government of India committees, including the Yashpal Committee on Rejuvenation of Higher Education, steering committees of the Planning Commission, the Central Advisory Board of Education subcommittee on teacher education, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, and RUSA. He was also part of the founding team and first Chairperson of the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship at IIM Ahmedabad. Professional Email: null
