About Pankaj

Dr. Pankaj Kalita is an Associate Professor in the School of Energy Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Jorhat Engineering College (2001), a Master of Technology in Mechanical Engineering (Fluids and Thermal Engineering) from IIT Guwahati (2009), and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Guwahati (2013). His doctoral research focused on hydrodynamics and heat transfer in pressurized circulating fluidized beds with biomass blends. Prior to his current role, he served as Assistant Professor at IIT Guwahati (2015–2021), Assistant Professor at Tezpur University (2013–2015), Scientific Officer at IIT Guwahati (2004–2013), and Assistant Project Engineer at IIT Guwahati (2002–2004). With more than two decades of academic and research experience, his work centers on clean energy technology, including fluidized bed combustion and gasification, biogas technology, two-phase flow and heat transfer, renewable energy systems such as solar thermal and photovoltaic conversion, energy storage, energy management, and remote electrification. His applied research interests encompass passive cooling of buildings, solar dryers integrated with phase change materials, hybrid PV/T systems, biomass gasification, anaerobic digestion, biochar applications, and compressed air energy storage. He received the India Distinguished Visiting Fellow award from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, in 2010.
