Dr. Pankaj Pramod Koparde serves as Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor at MIT World Peace University. He is an evolutionary ecologist whose work centers on urban ecology, biogeography, conservation science, biodiversity informatics, and science communication. His primary research focuses on owls and dragonflies, and he administers the citizen science projects DragonflySouthAsia and OwlIndia. Dr. Koparde holds an MSc in Biotechnology from Savitribai Phule Pune University (2010), a PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Manipal Academy of Higher Education in collaboration with the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History and the National Centre for Biological Sciences (2019), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Data Science from RISE WPU and KPMG Netherlands (2022).
He is a TEDx speaker who has delivered talks on platforms including Towards an Ecological Landscape and the Indian Society of Landscape Architects. Dr. Koparde has received the DST Young Scientist award, the SAEVUS Rising Star of Conservation award, and fellowships from Prakriti and EarthWatch. He contributes to the IUCN and serves on government committees such as the Panchagani Biodiversity Committee and the Pashan Lake Conservation Committee. He is a member of the World Dragonfly Association, the International Biogeography Society, and the Society for Conservation Biology. Dr. Koparde also works as an ecological consultant and has published research on odonates and other taxa, including descriptions of new species. He is a published Marathi writer with interests in literary essays.
