Paul Graham Fisher, MD, is the Beirne Family Professor of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology and Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Neurosurgery and Epidemiology and Population Health. He also serves as the Dunlevie Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. Following his BA with distinction in Human Biology from Stanford University in 1985 and his MD from the University of California, San Francisco in 1989, Dr. Fisher completed residencies in pediatrics and neurology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Johns Hopkins, and a master’s degree in epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University.
After beginning his faculty career at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Fisher was recruited to Stanford in 1997, where he established the pediatric neuro-oncology program. His clinical and research work centers on the epidemiology, therapy, and late effects of childhood brain tumors and other childhood cancers, with over 300 scholarly publications in neurology and pediatrics. He served as Chief of the Division of Child Neurology at Stanford for 15 years and as Interim Chair of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences. Dr. Fisher has held numerous administrative and educational roles, including Neurology Clerkship Director, Child Neurology Residency Program Director, Senior Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in Neurology, and Bing Director of the Program in Human Biology from 2012 to 2019. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Pediatrics and has received multiple teaching awards, including the Arthur L. Bloomfield Award and Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award from the Stanford School of Medicine, as well as recognition from Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Fisher teaches undergraduate courses in Human Biology and maintains board certifications in Pediatrics, Child Neurology, and Neuro-Oncology.
