About Paul

Dr Paul Ritchie is a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter’s Global Systems Institute within the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy. He works on projects investigating signs of spatial early warning signals for climate tipping points, including collaboration with Professor James Haywood on a Quadrature Climate Foundation initiative.

His research focuses on dynamical systems, nonlinear dynamics, mathematical modelling, bifurcation analysis, and the implications of overshooting temperature targets such as 1.5°C for Earth system tipping elements. Dr Ritchie holds a PhD from the University of Exeter in Mathematics and has contributed to publications on climate tipping risks, including work published in Environmental Research Letters in 2026. He previously held a PostDoc position at the university and is affiliated with research on mesophotic corals and broader climate dynamics.
