Paula Duarte-Guterman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Brock University. She earned a Bachelor of Science and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining Brock University in 2021, she completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Ulm in Germany, the University of British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University.
Duarte-Guterman holds the position of Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Neuroscience. Her research examines behavioural neuroscience in rodents, with a focus on the roles of hormones, metabolism, parental experience, environment, adult neurogenesis and plasticity, aging, learning, and memory. She investigates how male and female hormones, parenthood, and aging influence the remodelling of neural circuits in the hippocampus, a brain region involved in learning, memory, stress, and anxiety, using animal models to explore these processes.
