Paulin Coulibaly is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at McMaster University, with affiliations in the School of Earth, Environment and Society. He holds a B.A.Sc. and an M.A.Sc. from Nice, as well as a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Université Laval. Coulibaly joined McMaster University in 2001, having previously been affiliated with the National Research Institute in Quebec. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and serves as Director of the NSERC FloodNet, a multi-disciplinary research network focused on flood forecasting and management in Canada.
Coulibaly has established the McMaster Water Resources and Hydrologic Modelling Lab and the McMaster Mesonet. His research centers on advanced flood forecasting tools using probabilistic ensemble systems and data assimilation, nonstationary methods for storm and flood frequency analysis under changing climate conditions, optimal water monitoring networks, and the application of machine learning and satellite observations for hydrologic modeling in ungauged basins. He has contributed to national initiatives addressing climate change adaptation in the water sector.
