Philip Badawy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta, within the Faculty of Arts. He joined the university on July 1, 2022, as a tenure-track faculty member after completing his PhD at the University of Toronto in 2022. Badawy’s research examines work and stratification, work-family life, job qualities, mental health, and status inequality. He investigates working conditions as social determinants of health, with particular attention to how these dynamics evolve over time. One ongoing project utilizes a longitudinal, nationally representative sample of Canadian workers to analyze changes in stress exposure within work-family life during the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on health and well-being across social statuses. He teaches courses including SOC 220 Social Research Methods, SOC 363 Sociology of Work and Industry, and SOC 456 Data Analysis and Research.
