Professor Philippe Gradidge is a professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a BSc, BScHons, MMed, and PhD, all awarded by the University of the Witwatersrand. His research focuses on obesity epidemiology, physical activity epidemiology, and exercise interventions to address obesity and related diseases, particularly in vulnerable populations. In November 2025, Professor Gradidge delivered his inaugural lecture titled Movement Matters: Addressing the Health Challenges of Sedentary Lifestyles at the Parktown Health Sciences Campus.
Professor Gradidge's work contributes to understanding the determinants of obesity and metabolic syndrome in urban South African populations, with publications addressing factors such as physical activity patterns, body mass index, and lifestyle behaviours.
