Dr. Praveen Kumar Nagadesi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at St. Joseph's University in Bengaluru, India, where he previously served as Ex-coordinator of the department. He holds a Ph.D. in Botany from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat, with a thesis titled 'Biochemical and control studies on certain Timber degrading fungi of Gujarat,' completed in 2011. He earned an M.Sc. in Life Science from Pondicherry University and a B.Sc. in Botany, Microbiology, and Chemistry from Acharya Nagarjuna University. His academic qualifications also include clearing the GATE examination in Life Sciences.
Dr. Nagadesi's research focuses on mycology and plant pathology, with particular emphasis on fungal diversity, systematics, wood-decaying fungi, lignicolous macrofungi, mycochemicals, bioactive compounds, and biotechnological applications. He leads the Mycology and Plant Pathology Lab at the university and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including studies on new fungal species and records from regions such as the Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats, and Gujarat forests, as well as investigations into antifungal activities, aeromycoflora, and nanoparticle synthesis using fungi. Notable contributions include chapters in books on mushroom biology and bioprospecting of lignicolous fungi. His work has advanced understanding of fungal systematics and potential medicinal applications of mycochemicals.
