About Qionghai

Qionghai Dai is a professor in the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and has served as professor at Tsinghua University since 2005, following roles as associate professor and postdoctoral researcher in the same department. Dai leads research in computational photography, computational imaging, computer vision, and 3D video, with additional focus on mesoscale intravital fluorescence microscopy, artificial intelligence methods for biomedical applications, and optical computing techniques.

He has made pioneering contributions including the development of the world’s first gigapixel fluorescence microscope capable of cortex-wide neural recording at subcellular resolution in mammals. Dai also advances neuromorphic optoelectronic computing through innovations such as the diffractive processing unit and all-analog optoelectronic chips. His career includes receipt of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2005, the National Invention Award First Prize in 2012 for 3D Video Reconstruction and Display Techniques and Apparatuses, and the National Invention Award Second Prize in 2008. Dai serves as dean of the School of Information Science and Technology, director of the Institute of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and chairman of the China Artificial Intelligence Society, while holding an adjunct professorship at the School of Life Sciences.
