Qiufang Wen is a professor of applied linguistics and a full-time researcher at the National Research Center for Foreign Language Education and the Consortium for Chinese Studies and Intercultural Communication at Beijing Foreign Studies University. She obtained her doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. Wen has taught applied linguistics and English for over 30 years. She has supervised 42 doctoral students to completion and is currently supervising ten doctoral students.
Wen developed the Production-Oriented Approach (POA) to foreign language teaching, which has been elaborated over more than a decade through multiple rounds of research and classroom experimentation in China. Her research interests include second language teaching and learning, teacher professional development, and national language capacity. She has published over 150 articles and 20 books focused on English teaching and learning as a foreign language. Wen serves as President of the China English Language Education Association. She is editor of the Chinese Journal of Applied Linguistics (in English) and Foreign Language Education in China (in Chinese), and she serves on the editorial boards of several international journals. She has presented at over 100 national and international conferences, frequently as a keynote speaker, and regularly conducts workshops for university English teachers’ professional development in China.
