Professor Rajni Singh is a Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. She earned her PhD from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, in 2002. She joined the institution as Associate Professor in 2007 and was promoted to Professor in 2022. Her research interests include contemporary literary theory, contemporary Indian English fiction, literature of the Indian diaspora, gender issues, and professional communication.
Professor Singh has held several administrative positions, including Dean of Corporate Communications and Dean of Media and Branding. She has contributed to research on women’s writings, gender issues, and transgender inclusivity in India, with projects funded by the National Human Rights Commission and the Indian Council of Social Science Research. Her work on transgender inclusivity received recognition from the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. She has received awards including recognition as one of the top 10 knowledge producers in India for 2017-18 and Outstanding Research Faculty by Careers 360 and MHRD, as well as the Most Outstanding Researcher Award in Arts and Humanities. Professor Singh has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals such as the Asian Journal of Women’s Studies, Archiv Orientální, ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, and Asian Theatre Journal. She has served on the board of the National Commission for Women for scrutiny of proposals.
