Ranjan Rajendram is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and a Consultant in Medical Retina and Cataract at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust. He holds an MB BS from University College London and an MD research degree from the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. His training includes a fellowship in medical retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a research fellowship at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California. He has also served as a clinical lecturer at the Moorfields Eye Hospital Biomedical Research Centre of Ophthalmology, National Institute for Health Research.
Professor Rajendram’s research focuses on improved imaging and detection of eye disease, assessment of retinal function, oxygen levels, and blood vessel flow. His clinical and academic interests encompass retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular oedema, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusion, as well as the eye in the context of systemic conditions such as diabetes and cardiac disease. He has contributed to charitable eye care initiatives in developing countries, including work with Eyessee in Sri Lanka and Lifeline Express in China.
