About Raymond

Professor Raymond Chan is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Flinders University and holds the position of Matthew Flinders Professor of Cancer Care, Systems and Policy in the Caring Futures Institute. His research focuses on optimising models of care and health services and policy responses to address the needs of people affected by cancer. He has published more than 320 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters and has attracted more than $40 million AUD in research funding as Chief Investigator, including more than $20 million AUD as first-named Chief Investigator.

Professor Chan holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Applied Science by Research from the School of Nursing at Queensland University of Technology, along with a Bachelor of Nursing from the same institution and a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment. He is a registered nurse and has received numerous honours, including the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2021, Fellowship of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer in 2025, and recognition as Outstanding Educator by the same organisation in 2026. He previously served as President of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia from 2015 to 2017 and currently serves on the NHMRC Council for the triennium 2024-2027, as well as in leadership roles with the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia. He is a member of several editorial boards, including the Journal of Cancer Survivorship and Cancer Nursing.
