About Rejane

Rejane Vecchia da Rocha e Silva is a professor at the Universidade de São Paulo in the Department of Letras Clássicas e Vernáculas at the Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas. She holds a bachelor's degree in Letters from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1987) and in History from Universidade de São Paulo (1990). She earned her master's degree (1994) and doctorate (2000) in Letters, with a focus on Comparative Studies of Literatures in Portuguese Language, from Universidade de São Paulo. She completed postdoctoral research at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (2002–2006) as a PRODOC/Capes fellow and a short-term postdoctoral stay at Université Paris-Sorbonne (2014).

Her academic work centers on Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa and comparative studies of literatures in Portuguese. She serves as director of the Centro de Estudos das Literaturas e Culturas de Língua Portuguesa at FFLCH/USP and has held roles including vice-coordinator of the Núcleo de Apoio à Pesquisa Brasil-África: Novos Horizontes, vice-director of the Centro de Estudos Africanos at USP (2019), coordinator of the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Comparados de Literaturas de Língua Portuguesa (2015–2017), and vice-coordinator positions in related graduate programs. She supervises undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral research. Her research emphasizes intersections of literature, history, culture, society, and utopia in African literatures of Portuguese expression.
