Rate My Professor Renu Vig

Professor Renu Vig serves as the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, the first woman to hold this position since assuming the role in January 2023. With more than 35 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience in engineering and technology, she holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Technology from Panjab University specializing in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks. She completed her B.E. from Punjab Engineering College in 1985, earning a gold medal for securing the highest rank across departments, and her M.E. from the same institution in 1992.

Prior to her appointment as Vice Chancellor, Professor Vig held several key positions at Panjab University, including Dean University Instruction from February 2022 to March 2023, Dean Research in February 2022, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology for multiple terms between 2011 and 2018, and Director of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology from September 2009 to December 2017. She joined UIET as Reader in 2003 and was promoted to Professor in 2005. Her research specializations include artificial intelligence, neural networks, fuzzy logic, signal processing, and sensor networks, with applications in biomedical systems and control. She has successfully guided 13 Ph.D. students and 2 postdoctoral researchers, while supervising additional candidates, and has authored more than 120 Scopus-indexed and 40 SCI-indexed publications, achieving an H-index of 19. Professor Vig has received notable honors such as the N.K. Iyengar Memorial Prize in 2003, the Corps of Engineers Prize in 2005, and the Eminent Engineer Award from the Institution of Engineers (India) in 2018. She has secured substantial research grants, including for projects under TEQIP and the establishment of a Design Innovation Centre, and has contributed to initiatives in accreditation, innovation, and industry collaboration.
