About Rickie

Professor Rickie Patani is Professor of Neuroscience in the Departments of Medicine and Anatomy at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the Neurobiology Research Programme at the NUS Life Sciences Institute. He joined NUS in August 2025.

Prof Patani obtained his BSc in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience and MB BS from Imperial College London in 2004. He gained MRCP (UK) in 2007 and a PhD in Human Stem Cell Neurobiology from the University of Cambridge in 2011, supported by a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship. He later received a Wellcome Trust Clinician Scientist Fellowship and established his research group at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in 2013. A physician-scientist, his research focuses on human induced pluripotent stem cell models of neurodegeneration, with emphasis on RNA metabolism and cellular autonomy in neurodegenerative diseases. He holds qualifications including FRCP (UK) and FMedSci. In 2025, he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. His awards include the Lister Research Prize, Brain Sciences Young Investigator Award, International 3Rs Prize, Paulo Gontijo Prize in Medicine, Graham Bull Prize, and Goulstonian Lectureship from the Royal College of Physicians. He has contributed to scientific panels including the MRC Neuroscience and Mental Health Board, MRC Training and Careers Strategy Board, and MND Association Funding Panel.
