Dr Riki Lindsay is a Lecturer in Health and Physical Education at Federation University’s Mt Helen Campus. He is a motor learning and skill acquisition academic whose research centres on motor imagery, nonlinear pedagogy, constraints-led approaches, sport psychology, and related areas including perceptual-cognitive skill development and mental health in sporting contexts. He completed his PhD at Victoria University in 2022 with a thesis entitled “A Nonlinear Pedagogy Approach to Mental Imagery for Skill Acquisition.” Prior to this, he earned a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Auckland University of Technology and a Bachelor’s degree from Monash University. In addition to his academic role, Dr Lindsay is a Registered Psychologist and Clinical Psychology Registrar at Grampians Health.
His teaching and research encompass motor learning, motor control, skill acquisition, sports psychology, anatomy, physiology and biomechanics. Dr Lindsay has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers on topics such as the effectiveness of motor imagery training, the mental health of sporting officials, physical education in rural schools, and the use of extended reality technologies in skill development. He is a co-author of the 2025 book The Psychology of Mental Imagery in Movement and Action. Dr Lindsay maintains an active research profile with recent publications appearing in journals including the Journal of Sports Sciences, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, and Sport, Education and Society.
