Robert H. Deng is Professor of Computer Science and Deputy Dean for Faculty & Research in the School of Computing and Information Systems at Singapore Management University. He holds a PhD from the Illinois Institute of Technology awarded in 1985. Deng joined Singapore Management University in 2004 as its first tenured full professor in the School of Information Systems. His research focuses on applied cryptography, data security and privacy, mobile wireless and sensor network security, and trusted computing and system security. He serves as Director of the Secure Mobile Centre and holds the AXA Chair Professorship of Cybersecurity.
Deng is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, and the Singapore Academy of Engineering. He received the Zhongni Distinguished Educator Award from Singapore Management University in 2025, the Public Administration Medal (Silver) as part of the National Day Awards in 2020, and the Lee Kuan Yew Fellow for Research Excellence from Singapore Management University in 2006. Earlier in his career he was recognized as University Outstanding Researcher at the National University of Singapore in 1999. Deng has delivered keynotes and invited talks on topics including post-quantum cryptography and hardware-assisted data security.
