About Rohini

Rohini Godbole was an Indian physicist and academic specializing in elementary particle physics, with a focus on field theory and phenomenology. She earned a bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, and statistics from Sir Parshurambhau College, University of Pune, a master's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and a PhD in theoretical particle physics from Stony Brook University. Godbole joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research as a visiting fellow in 1979, served as lecturer and reader at the University of Bombay from 1982 to 1995, and joined the Centre for High Energy Physics at the Indian Institute of Science as associate professor in 1995, becoming full professor in June 1998. She superannuated in July 2021 and continued as honorary professor. Over her career, she authored more than 150 research papers on topics including the Standard Model, physics beyond the Standard Model, QCD phenomenology, supersymmetry, electroweak physics, and collider physics at facilities such as the Large Hadron Collider and proposed next-generation colliders. Godbole was an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences India, and The World Academy of Sciences. She received the Padma Shri in 2019, the Ordre National du Mérite from France, the Satyendranath Bose Medal, the Goyal Prize, and an honorary doctorate from IIT Kanpur. She contributed to the International Detector Advisory Group for the International Linear Collider and chaired the Panel for Women in Science of the Indian Academy of Sciences. With Ram Ramaswamy, she edited the book Lilavati's Daughters, a collection of biographical essays on Indian women scientists published in 2008. Godbole also authored books on supersymmetry and contributed to science communication through public lectures and advocacy for women in science.
