About Rolanda

Rolanda Julius serves as Training Programme Manager in the Computational Biology Division within the Department of Integrative Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town. In this role, she supports research and training initiatives for the H3Africa and DS-I Africa consortia, focusing on capacity building in bioinformatics and data science for health research across Africa. Her responsibilities include coordinating training programs, facilitating workshops, and contributing to collaborative efforts that advance genomic and computational biology research on the continent.

Julius obtained her PhD from the University of Pretoria, where her doctoral research centered on zoonotic disease ecology, parasitology, and molecular phylogenetics. She previously completed an MSc in Zoology at the same institution. Her academic interests encompass these areas along with molecular techniques, and she brings experience in teaching and promoting public health awareness as well as life science education. She has contributed as a co-author to publications addressing topics such as HIV genomics research in Africa and the application of data science for health discovery. Julius maintains an affiliation with the University of Cape Town in her current training and coordination capacity.
